The Originals has a new poster for the show!
The weeks and months go fast for humans, but it probably goes at a snail’s pace for vampires and other supernaturals who live hundreds of years instead of tens of years. While it’s probably not wise to wish the time away, I can’t wait until April 25th when The Vampire Diaries spinoff “The Originals” will air on The CW. We’re already starting to get more information on it, including a new, official, poster.
Based on the poster and it’s tagline “In New Orleans, the air is thick with blood,” the New Orleans-based show appears to be taking a much darker atmosphere than the one on The Vampire Diaries. Joseph Morgan has already said in previous interviews that it will be a much more adult-oriented show than it’s parent.
The Originals show poster
The poster features Joseph Morgan as Klaus, Daniel Gillies as Elijah, Claire Holt as Rebekah, and Charles Michael Davis as Klaus’ former protégé Marcel. We’ve see some of the behind-the-scenes images of The Originals, and scenes from The Vampire Diaries 4×20 “The Originals” episode. We even have the official synopsis of the pilot.
KLAUS RETURNS TO HIS PAST IN NEW ORLEANS IN “THE ORIGINALS”
Acting on a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in New Orleans, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) makes a trip to the town he and his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his former protégé, Marcel (guest star Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows Klaus and soon learns that Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie (guest star Daniella Pineda). Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) continue with their plan for Elena (Nina Dobrev), while Katherine (Nina Dobrev) reveals a surprising vulnerability to Rebekah (Claire Holt) and asks her to deliver a message.
Joseph recently told Entertainment Weekly that his character, Klaus, would be having some big changes in his life, besides leaving Caroline and Mystic Falls and moving to New Orleans.
Joseph Morgan on Klaus’ life changes
There’s some huge, huge transitions and some reveals that will change the character forever…. We’re gonna see some tremendous moments of vulnerability, but he is so, I wanna swear, badass. We’re gonna see him cooler than he’s ever been before.
Anybody familiar with New Orleans knows there have been many books and films about voodoo, witches, vampires, and all things supernatural that have been centered in its rich atmosphere of blues, Bourbon Street, Mardi Gra, and the French Quarter. With all these great elements to draw from, the writers have a real feast to fill their plates with. Supernatural city, badass vulnerable Klaus, honorable family-oriented Elijah, Rebekah who wants to be human, and Marcel who has ulterior motives. What more do you want!?
Now we just have to wait. And wait. And wait. I’m hoping for more images and more spoilers between now and the April 25th airing of The Vampire Diaries 4×20 “The Originals” episode!
