True Blood’s Janina Gavankar is Tessa on The Vampire Diaries
Seems like Janina can’t get enough blood. The former shape-shifter on True Blood has just be cast in the recurring role of Tessa for season 5 of The Vampire Diaries.
Tessa is described as a self-assured exotic beauty. She’s a vamp who was once in a romantic relationship with Stefan and has been searching for him for the past century. Won’t she be in for a surprise!
Episode 5×03 recurring character
Tessa – A nobleman’s daughter who is both powerful and insightful.
Tessa appears in the third episode, which will feature some flashbacks, and over the course of the season she’ll be tangling it up with the Salvatore bros. Will she be instrumental in finding and rescuing the real Stefan, and possibly help in ridding Mystic Falls of Silas?
Janina, 33, was born in Joliet, Illinois, and is a trained vocalist, pianist, and orchestral percussionist as well as an actress. She attended the University of Illinois in Chicago, where she majored in Theater Performance.
In addition to being creative, Janina is also technical. According to her she was the first actor to use Twitter when she signed up for it in 2006 on Richard Branson’s computer while on Necker Island. In 2011 she also created a template that artists and actors can use to help control their online presence.
As well as Janina’s shape-shifting days as Luna Garza on True Blood and Tessa on The Vampire Diaries, she has also appeared as Detective McKenna Hall on “Arrow,” Leigh Turner on “The Gates,” Lynn on “Dollhouse,” and was the voice of Niki for “Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey.” In addition to TV, she will also appear as Vanessa in the upcoming movie “Think Like a Man, Too.”
