Will Klaus be part The Vampire Diaries season 5 and Caroline?

The picture above says it all. Joseph Morgan, as Klaus, of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals is looking very pensive, perhaps contemplating Klaus’ future. Perhaps thinking of Caroline. Perhaps thinking of the baby.

Now that The Vampire Diaries 4×20 “The Originals” has aired, we all have three  questions. The first question is whether “The Originals” will be picked up by The CW network to go to series as part of their Fall lineup. The second question is what happens with Klaus if “The Originals” isn’t picked. Will he and his siblings remain a part of The Vampire Diaries? The third question is whether Klaus will be part of The Vampire Diaries, even when (I say this with much hope and desire) “The Originals” becomes a series.

The CW network has officially picked up The Originals

for the 2013-2014 season!

Obviously now that The Originals is picked up Klaus will be relocating to New Orleans on a more permanent basis, with his big brother, Elijah, played by Daniel Gillies, and his baby sister Rebekah, played by Claire Holt. If the series airs right after The Vampire Diaries, then we’ll have two full hours of vampires to swoon and drool over!

With Klaus becoming a daddy, it will definitely be interesting to see this big bad wolf become an overly protective parent who melts at the least little coo and gurgle. But that doesn’t mean Caroline, played by Candice Accola, is out of Klaus’ life. Although both Joseph Morgan and executive producer Julie Plec have agreed that it’s time for the hunky hybrid to move on with his life, how can we ignore that phone call Klaus made to Caroline, wanting to share the art, music, and culture of the city he loves with the woman he loves. Joseph already stated that if he could take just one Mystic Falls resident to New Orleans with him it would be Caroline.

One of the questions asked of Julie and all The Originals and The Vampire Diaries cast members is about cross-overs. These two shows are perfect for that scenario. In the NCIS world they’re already hinting that there will be crossovers between NCIS: Los Angeles and their spinoff NCIS: Red. In fact, it looks like they’ve already set up an intershow love triangle. On The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley has already hinted that Stefan might be seeking adventures elsewhere. Could the “elsewhere” be New Orleans? Perhaps the “rippah” will help Klaus and crew overthrow Marcel!

Julie Plec on her villains

[T]he greatest struggle as writers of this show is we like our villains to be on the good guys’ team more often than not.

This is probably why Klaus hasn’t killed Elena or the brothers Salvatore. At least not yet! Joseph Morgan has also stated that Mystic Falls isn’t quite Klaus’ cup of tea. Klaus is into art and literature, music and culture. The perceived finer things that life has to offer a man of his advanced age and immortal status.

Joseph Morgan on Mystic Falls and season 5

I understand his reason for staying behind in Mystic Falls so long with unfinished business, and we’ve seen him pack his stuff about three times and then not quite leave. For me, the idea of a 1,000-year-old being choosing Mystic Falls as a place to live or to settle down is not as realistic as somewhere like New York or London or Paris or New Orleans.

This is probably why Klaus would like to pick up Caroline, literally and figuratively, and transport his vampire princess to New Orleans. Just think! They could rule together. King and Queen Mikaelson! But that does rather leave the awkward subject of Hayley, a regrettable one-night stand that has resulted in an eternal responsibility. However, the baby isn’t born yet.

If Caroline remains in Mystic Falls, which is a pretty good bet, I don’t think Klaus will ever totally forsake Mystic Falls. He’ll always be at the blond bombshell’s beck and call if ever she’s in need of anything, whether it’s a new dress, somebody’s shoulder to cry on, or just somebody to vent and yell at.

One of my favorite Klaus and Caroline scenes

So now my lovelies, as Klaus would say (and I hope you don’t mind my saying it), the waiting game to see what The CW‘s decision is over! And we’ll have a new episode next Thursday, May 2nd, The Vampire Diaries 4×21 “She’s Come Undone,” where we get to watch Elena being tortured by the ones who love her, as well as find out what Klaus is talking to Caroline about in that “confusing and dangerous encounter”!
